What should SEO work look like each month?
Investigate real issues, complete useful changes and keep a record you can check.
SEO (search engine optimisation) consists of work maintained according to actual needs. A monthly review can be a useful business habit, but it is not a package Google requires you to buy. Search Console, Google’s website search-checking tool, can help identify relevant issues.
Start with these basics
- Check that important pages open normally and have no unexpected indexing problems: problems with being added to Google’s search database. Address tool notifications that actually affect your website.
- Review business information and customer questions. Update relevant pages when services change, information expires or answers are missing. Do not mechanically change dates when there is no necessary update.
- Record which page changed, why and when. Check again after an appropriate interval. Google needs time to reread pages, and search performance can take time to change. Do not promise a fixed increase every month.

Finish usable pages before expanding
The first round can be one clear, accessible service page with real services, suitable customers, necessary explanations and working contact options. Publishing a company introduction without delivering the described service or function still does not help customers. Decide whether login or payment features are needed according to the business. Building a huge website need not delay improving the information you already have.
Check whether a small set of pages is useful, readable and easy to contact you from before expanding. If many important pages remain unindexed after a large release, investigate the cause and page value before adding more. Page counts, update frequency and backlink counts are not universal monthly quotas. See Google: SEO Starter Guide and Google: Helpful, reliable, people-first content .
Walk through an example
| Check | Before (illustrative) | After, or the appropriate action |
|---|---|---|
| Service-page opening hours | Outdated | Update to match reality |
| Booking link | Returns an error | Repair and check it |
| Work record | Only “optimisation completed” | Record the page, change, reason and date |
Suppose a broken booking link is found at the start of the month. After repairing it, the owner immediately checks that it opens and records the date. Related page data can be reviewed later. Do not wait until month-end to fix a fault affecting customers.
Common misunderstandings
There is no universal target for “articles to publish or links to buy each month”. An ordinary website does not need daily Search Console logins either. Deal with business changes and obvious faults promptly.
